Natural Scrub for Face and Body: Who doesn’t desire clear, glowing & refreshing skin but is it that simple to achieve? Many chemical-based products are available in the market, these can give an instant result but in the long term, they can harm our skin & we even do not notice its effects instantly. So it’s always advisable to opt for Herbal products rather than chemical-based products.

Talking about the daily skincare regime basically face washes, face scrubs are used for cleansing purposes. And today thousands of skincare products are available in the market. But there are many natural ways to cleanse your skin especially scrubbing.

What is the need for scrubbing?

Daily washing your face is not just enough, it needs exfoliation. Daily we are exposed to various dirt & pollution, and as we all know that skin contains thousands of pores through which sebum is secreted which is the oily substance we feel on the surface of our skin. Sebum helps to moisturize & protect the skin. Usually, dirt is accumulated in these pores & merely washing the face doesn’t unclog pores. Clogged pores can lead to Blackheads, Whiteheads, Acne & various skin conditions.

Natural Scrub for Face and Body Home-made

1. Coffee

Coarsely grounded coffee beans act as a great scrub for your skin. It’s rich in antioxidants that help to fight the free radicals from the skin. A regular application might help to reduce the signs of aging, Cellulite reduction, & Brighten skin tone.

It’s better to combine coffee with some moisturizer so that it gently exfoliates skin & does not cause any harm like redness or itching.

How to use coffee as a scrub-DIY:

  • Take half a teaspoon of coffee powder
  • Add Olive oil accordingly to make a paste
  • Apply this mixture to your face & neck region
  • Massage for about 2-3 minutes
  • Do not rub aggressively as it would be harsh on the skin

2.Brown Sugar

Brown sugar is rich in Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA), which penetrates deep in skin & break down the compounds that binds the skin cells this promotes Cell regeneration & Skin rejuvenation. Also brown sugar is not harsh on skin, it gently exfoliates the skin without damaging it.

How to use Brown sugar as a scrub- DIY:

  • Take half a teaspoon of brown sugar
  • Add Coconut oil to it accordingly to make a paste
  • Apply this mixture to the face & neck region
  • Massage for about 2-3 minutes
  • Then wash it off with normal water
  • Apply this mixture at least 2-3 times a week


As oats have coarse particles hence it’s very effective in deeply exfoliating skin & removing excess sebum, dead skin cells from the skin’s surface. It helps to soothe any inflammation on the skin.

Oats can be used with honey as they act as a humectant, it hydrates & helps to heal the skin.

How to use oats as a scrub- DIY:

  • Take 2 teaspoons of Oats
  • Add one teaspoon of honey to it
  • Apply this mixture to your face & neck region
  • Just massage for about 2-3 minutes
  • Then wash it off with normal water

4.Multani Mitti

Multani mitti is dry in nature thus it helps to remove excess oil from the skin, removes dirt & unclogs pores. It’s very effective for oily skin, it can be used as a face mask also. It helps to dry out red, inflamed pimples & effectively reduces its size.

How to use Multani mitti as a scrub- DIY:

  • Take 2-3 teaspoons of Multani mitti in a bowl
  • Mix Rosewater to it to make a fine paste
  • Now apply this mixture to your face & neck region
  • Massage for about 2-3 minutes or you can just leave it as a face mask
  • Now wash it off with normal water

5.Rice Powder

Coarsely grounded rice works great as a skin exfoliator, especially for oily skin. It wipes away the excess oil from the skin. But to use this as a scrub some moisture content has to be added to it. If you have oily skin you can add Rosewater or Tomato juice to it & if you have dry skin you can add Honey to it which acts as a moisturizer for the skin.

How to use Rice powder as a scrub- DIY :

  • Take 2 teaspoons of Rice powder
  • Add honey/ tomato juice/ rose water accordingly
  • Apply this mixture to your face & neck region
  • Massage for about 2-3 minutes
  • Wash it off
