How to Reduce Dark circles?

DARK CIRCLES

Skin is the outermost covering of the human body and also the largest organ. We all have different skin types may it be oily, dry, or normal skin but the basic structure is the same for all beings. Basically, the skin is made up of 3 layers-

1. Epidermis (the outermost layer)

2. Dermis (the middle layer)

3. Hypodermis (the innermost layer)

The skin has many functions like it protects the internal organs, secretes sebum (an oily substance), perspiration, insulating the body from heat or cold, and the feeling of heat, cold, or other external effects.

Being a protective layer of our body it is daily exposed to various stress. There are a lot of skin infections and conditions that a person may suffer, may it be acne, rash, or psoriasis. So in this condition, it becomes so necessary to protect and maintain our skin type to avoid unnecessary skin conditions.  There are several conditions which we generate ourselves with minor negligence like not applying the right cosmetics or applying too much chemical-based cosmetics. It’s always advised to apply sunscreen before exposing to the sun, still, we ignore this important step. Properly cleansing and scrubbing the skin, which we feel is too time-consuming so most of us just ignore this step. And many more steps are recommended by dermatologists to achieve perfect, glowing skin.

Today we are basically going to focus on a very common problem that is dark circles.

What are Dark Circles?

Dark Circles basically occurs under the lower eyelids, and it may have many causes like-

  • Stress
  • Lack of sleep
  • Ageing
  • Thinning of skin
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Genetics
  • Some medical conditions
  • Allergy
  • Trauma
  • Dehydration

We have mentioned some of the main causes, but there could be many more causes of dark circles.

How to Reduce Dark circles?

1. Apply ice packs

Applying ice helps to constrict blood vessels under the eye, the dilated vessels lead to a dark appearance when ice is applied to the particular area it leads to constriction of the blood vessels. Just apply the ice for 10 minutes under your eyes.

2. Rosewater

Rosewater is an astringent and also it is applied as a toner, hence applying rose water for just 10-15 minutes daily helps to reduce dark circles under your eyes. Take a cotton ball, soak it in rose water and then apply under your eyes with the help of this cotton. Do not excessively rub the cotton ball to the skin surface.

3. Cold Green Teabags

The caffeine present in green teas is great for tightening the skin, thus reducing the appearance of dark circles, herbal teas are incredibly soothing for the skin. They contain antioxidants that help to remove free radicals from the skin. Just boil a glass of water and dip a green tea bag into it, then keep this bag under your eyes for 10-15 minutes this will not only helps to reduce dark circles but also relieves eye strain, promotes blood circulation, reduces swelling, and redness

Caffeine shrinks the blood vessels, which reduces swelling and puffiness under the eyes, and the constricted blood vessels also help to eliminate the dark circles.

Tannins are responsible for the color and astringent flavor of the tea. The astringency also helps to constrict capillaries and blood vessels.

4. Vitamin E

It contains alpha-tocopherol and tocotrienols which is a very powerful antioxidant that protects skin from harmful free radicals. It reduces the effects of aging and possesses anti-inflammatory properties that help to reduce puffiness under the eyes.

Just add a Vitamin E capsule in any oil like Almond or coconut oil and apply it to your under eyes, keep it overnight, and wash it off in the morning. Daily following this routine effectively reduces dark circles to a greater extent.

5. Potato juice

Potato juice is a natural bleaching agent that can tighten and remove stubborn tan from the skin, thereby improving complexion, it helps to treat blemishes, sunburn, dark spots, fine lines, and dull skin. When applied under the eyes helps to lighten the tone. According to Research, it stimulates melanin production upon reaction to oxygen. It also contains Vitamin B3, the deficiency of which causes dark circles, so when applied topically it helps to reduce dark circles. Potatoes also contain Niacin that is an effective skin brightening agent.

Peel a Potato and grate it, now strain the grated potato & collect the juice in a container. You can also add a pinch of turmeric to the juice for better results.

6. Cucumbers

Cucumbers contain Vitamin K that helps to reduce the dark tone or bruising, it possesses the ability to improve clotting and coagulation. It’s also an astringent which lightens the area and as it contains a good percentage of water and has cooling effects it also tightens the skin & reduces puffiness under the eyes.

You can use Cucumbers slices or cucumber juice for application. Do not peel the green outer covering of the cucumbers as they are rich in Vitamin K, cut it into slices and keep the slices on your eyes for 15 minutes or just grate cucumbers, strain them. Now with the help of cotton apply the juice under your eyes.

Conclusion

We go for remedies and other medicines but we never thought of the methods to prevent these conditions. Dark circles are also a result of lack of sleep and stress, taking proper sleep and meditation helps to prevent these conditions. Proper sleep not only prevents dark circles but also promotes good, healthy skin.

And it’s always advised to do a patch test before going for any remedy as they are based on experiences. Some people may be allergic to homemade remedies or some of the ingredients mentioned above.
